ChildNet seeks support from individuals and corporations for specific projects that directly benefit our Family Support Services and our Special Education programs offered through the ChildNet Continuum of Care. Leadership Gifts opportunities range from $25,000 to $1 million and can be paid over several years. Projects supported by these gifts will be named for the donor or other person they designate.

Scholarships and Student Assistance

The following are supported by the ChildNet Scholarship/Student Assistance Fund, and applications are available to All ChildNet alumni.

  • Special Education Scholarships
  • Grants to Assist with College, Vocational or Trade School Tuition and Fees
  • Stipends for Living Expenses while pursuing a Degree, Certificate or Apprenticeship

Transportation

Transport clients to/from home, in-home family therapy sessions, medical/dental/vision appointments and numerous therapeutic recreation activities on a regular basis. The monthly rate we receive from the County for program services does not adequately cover the cost of vans (and/or costs associated with transportation).

Carpeting

Every three to four years, we need to replace the carpeting at our special education schools. With the amount of traffic/wear & tear, along with frequent vacuuming & cleaning, our carpets wear out quickly.

Facility Maintenance

Regulations are strict with regard to keeping safe, well-maintained facilities. This includes things like landscaping, paint, general repairs, air conditioning, kitchen/food service equipment, etc. Additional resources are always needed to meet these standards at all times.

Therapeutic Recreation

Therapeutic Recreation is an integral part of our treatment program. Activities are geared toward assisting clients with reaching goals such as anger management, increasing frustration tolerance, identifying emotions, improving coping skills, learning how to be a team player, learning how to follow instructions, etc. These activities also often provide cultural sensitivity/awareness and expose clients to new places and people they have never heard of. Trips to places like the Museum of Tolerance, Art Museums, Theater Productions and Cultural Centers all play a role in enriching their lives. $150,000 is needed to cover expenses related to this important and popular recreation department program. Every year an Art Show and Sale is held featuring the excellent art works by the boys.

Textbooks

Due to new school certification standards, we are now required to purchase a textbook for every student for all 10 core subject areas. This initial expense will be approximately $100,000. Every two or three years when the Public Unified School District textbooks are upgraded, we will be required to update our texts at both school sites as well. Therefore, we will need a textbook fund to assist in covering this on-going $60,000 per year expense.

Transportation Vehicles (VANS)

Door-to-door transportation to/from school is provided for students. Funds are needed to cover this expense (as well as all other costs associated with transportation).

Sports/Music/Art Programs

Students are provided with the opportunity to join our school sports teams (basketball, soccer, baseball), receive guitar instruction and participate in various art projects. These extra-curricular programs – outstanding by any evaluation - are in need of continuing funding.

Indigent Clients

A small percentage of the clients receiving services through Behavior Health Services do not qualify for medi-cal and do not have any health insurance (they are commonly referred to as the “working poor”). We need approximately $150,000 on an annual basis to cover the cost of providing mental health services to this indigent population.

Household Items

The families served through our Wraparound program are families in crisis who are poor and often unable to meet the needs of their children. They are in need of basic items such as diapers, refrigerators, furniture and clothing. A general fund to cover these items is needed.
